I work as a Licensed Professional Counselor, helping people grow through hard times such that troubling habits become creative opportunites for greater health of body, mind, spirit, and relationship. I'm said to be unconventional, with fearless trust in peoples' indestructible wisdom and their ability to align with it ever more authentically over the lifespan.
Therapy with me involves cutting through confusion not with harsh criticism but with humor and high regard, increasing self-awareness and mindfulness not by accumulating more knowledge but by relating better with the unknown, decreasing anxiety and panic related to trauma and PTSD not by anticipating and reacting to every perceived threat but by responding to triggers with courage and calm discernment, working with depression-related sadness and irritability not through avoiding or exaggerating those emotions but through realizing and respecting a client's overwhelm in response to grief/loss and helplessness, and managing bipolar mood swings not by escaping what's negative and clinging to what's positive but by relating directly to both.
In short, therapy with me involves opening to what's possible and never giving up on what's always going to be found at the root of suffering to be basically good and workable, even if incredibly challenging. It's my sincere hope that our connection will open your heart and ease your mind, improve your overall health, energize your personal relationships and work life, and inspire the recognition and application of your extant good sense in any circumstance.
At your convenience and free of charge, we can schedule a 20-minute phone or video call to discuss how my approach could help you. We can also talk about my rates and policies. At the end of the consultation we will know whether therapy with me -- in the office, through video, via phone/text, creekside, or while walking -- might work for you.
* Links to institutions attended show current degree requirements, which may differ from requirements met during my attendance. In lieu of my actual transcripts, this information offers a general understanding of my academic track and accomplishments. ** While I continue studying and applying trauma-based approaches in therapy, I have not maintained certified status in CPT and EMDR because these require particular ongoing training and consistent application. My style with clients is more integrative and interactive than strict trauma protocols can allow. That said, these in-depth trainings have formed much of the bedrock of my mindfulness-based approach to trauma resolution, and so remain at the top of the list of my professional influences.
